Zeilen is a story that takes place in Antwerp, where seasoned sailors, young and old, tell us what their relationship with sailing is. The idea came from my grandfather, Jacques Persoons, who long reigned over VVW (Vlaamse Vereniging voor zeilers). I myself grew up on sailing boats. This documentary was a way to reconnect with a part of me that was lost, through the eyes of family and friends. It puts into question what sailing has become and where it’s going.
